Shivanahalli Observation Report
After the Yelagiri trip got cancelled, all of us decided to go to our usual observation ground in Shivanahalli near Banerghatta National Park. Luckily, a few members who would not have made it to Yelagiri did manage to make it.
The observation session was attended by eleven people: Amar, Pavan Sarma, Nitesh, Sriram, Jaya, Shuchi, Sowmya, Pradeep, Nagesh, Niveditha and Hemant (myself).
Star Party at Yelagiri - Report
Yet again, we had the usual aggregation of Amateur Astronomers from Chennai and Bangalore at Yelagiri Hills, near Vaniyambadi, Tamil Nadu.
The attendees from Bangalore were Hemant Hariyani, Amar Sharma, Neetesh, Pavan Kumar Sharma, and Mr. Byju. Dr. Suresh Mohan, myself and my friends Prasanna Ramaswamy, Vinay Hegde and Prakash Mohan drove down from Chennai, and Arun Bharadwaj joined us from Trichy.
New naked-eye comet: 17/P Holmes.
This one is a fairy tale for sure. Comet 17/P Holmes which passed perihelion in early May has suddenly brightened up dramatically. Reports of Observation have been flowing in from places worldwide and this is one comet that has really managed to rummage out enthusiasm-galore out of even a non-fanatic Comet enthusiast.
Some observation reports have placed, predicted the Comet at 1st Magnitude. The comet is currently in Perseus and has a star like appearance to the naked eye and with most telescopes unless at high power, when the coma becomes more aparrent. Care to resort to Cartes Du Ciel to make a finder chart for yourself.
