This is an Educational Trip on Radio Astronomy !

Hi ,

I really wish to join this event but I am leaving for my home town today. Will really miss to be a part of it.

We had a great time in Kaundinya National Park, as this was my first interaction with the group it really felt great to see the enthusiasm among the group. No doubt we ran out of luck to check out the dark skies but still it was really great to meet all the members.

Special thanks to Amar to hand me so much of data to read and Heament who let us take his Telescope that too in such a bad weather.

Thanks again !

BAS will be organizing a visit to the Gauribidanur Observatory on Saturday. The purpose of the visit is to find out more about radio telescopes, understand the details of its construction and operation, and help us to eventually build one.

NOTE: This event is restricted to interested participants with some elementary background in Radio Astronomy, such as the working principles behind antennae, basics of astronomy, concepts of interferometry and an understanding of how data from a radio telescope is visualized, on the request of the authorities.

Signups: Everyone who is attending the event is requested to sign up for the event by clicking on the link below. Signups will be finalized on Thursday, as the authorities have requested for a break-up of the group. Any changes in registration after Thursday are discouraged. As mentioned earlier, an understanding of fundamentals of radio astronomy is a pre-requisite.

Transportation: Transportation will be organized only if there are sufficient number of participants requiring transportation facilities.

About the Observatory
The Gauribidanur Observatory has unique research facilities for radio observations, especially of the sun. The low wavelengths supported by the seemingly old-fashioned equipment in the observatory make these research facilities unique in the world.

Please discuss any clarifications that you may need through the Mailing list, which you can join at:

Resources on radio astronomy will be posted to the group in a short while.
