Hi All,
The 16" mirror will be resumed in its grinding stage from the 11th of April until the 19th of april as of now.
there will be two sessions of grinding each day, i.e; two Shifts.
it will be as follows.
10:00 AM to 1:00pm
2:00pm to 5pm.
this will be @ 6hrs/day, and a total of 54hrs work.
at this rate, we should be able to complete atleast until 220grade grinding.
Any person, regardless of any Experience in telescope making/astronomy, who would like to contribute to th project Please do come up.
this time i have put up the schedule very well in advance, so ppls, please make it to the sessions and see that you will have a 16" telescope to use this winter season...
i wouls preferably take in as many as possible, so that we can keep rotating hands.
as of today, there is an update.:
Pramod, and his friend,, two new members who attended the meet up today, are going to be grinding tomorrow, from 2:00 pm to 5:00pm.
cheers,
Sincerely,
Sathya

Hi All,
Pramod and Vinod came a whole ten min before hand and after half an hour of "re-building" of the makeshift shelter, aka plastic camping sheet draped over pvc plumbing pipes, courtesy chandru, the glass resumed its curvature making business, and after 3hrs of dedicated grinding by them both, reached half way mark.
the sagitta as of now stands at approx 2 to 2.25mm deep.
it will be only a matter of until next wee end when they both, along with two more "wastebodies" as Pramod termed themselves will come back and resume and finish the sagitta.
at this rate, i expect that we can finish off the 600 grade by the sheduled period in the month of april.
i will be putting up a excel spreadsheet with dates as given by volunteers. i still have to give each one a call [ do i get reimbursed folks?? :) ]
Anyways, thats so much from the ATM front.
with proper commitmentment, i dont see why our mirror won't see first light by this years observing session for winter!!!!
cheers,

Hi Sathya,
I am very much keen to join the 16” mirror grinding workshop. Can you please let me know the venue of the workshop. Also do I have to buy the glass bank myself from some shop or I can buy it from the workshop itself? What else will be required to join the workshop. If possible, provide me your contact number.
My email id is supabitra.chakraborty@intecbilling.com.
I am anxiously waiting for your reply.
Thanks and Regards,
Supa.
Is the grinding complete? Do you need more hands?
Can i join? please let me know.
