REPORT: Outreach @ Parikrama School,Jayanagar

This event was a part of BAS's public education and outreach programme. The event was held on the 31st of January 2010 at the Parikrama School,Jayanagar.

The first thing we noticed about the students at the Parikrama school are they are all unexpectedly brilliant, in fact they are probably better thinkers than many of us , when we were at that age .

REPORT : Coorg Star Party - Nov 2009

This report has been long overdue .Besides considering the high quality of the Star Party , it is but apt that the event be reported despite the delay.

The Coorg Star party at Keemalee Estates held in the month of November 2009 has to be amongst the best star parties that we have had. The Quality skies and the prestiness of  Estate have greatly contributed to the success of the Trip. This Star party was the first of the Observing season and many people had their hopes attached to this one ,especially after a long cloudy monsoon.

Valentines Day @ VBO, Kavalur! Observing report - 13th Feb '10

A newly established vivid and striking structure - for measuring 'Seeing' effects

Wow! What an event! The star party on the night of 13th February 2010 has, for everyone -- surely for me -- etched memories in our personal lives. A respectable collaboration between Professionals (Indian Institute of AstroPhysics) and Amateurs, it was one of the best and biggest star parties in South India, at Vainu Bappu Obvservatory @ Kavalur -- the people, the equipment, the observations and moreover the prestigious location! Further, what a way it was to romanticize with the Stars, prior to Valentine's Day, for us Nature Lovers!

Leonid Meteor Shower - November 2009

with more than 80 photos taken, one of the frame captured the Leonid
meteor ! At last, one successful observation of Leonid meter recorded
from Bangalore.

Leonid Meteor Shower was expected to be good this year, due to
1. new moon period ( darker skies )
2. estimated 200-500 meteors / hr from NASA for Indian observers
3. peak time favoring Indian observers.

but the show was spoiled by the clouds all over Bangalore and South India.

Outreach @ Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore

The Bangalore Astronomical Society organised a small Outreach session on the 4th of November 2009 for the staff and resident students of The Indian Statistical Institute here in Bangalore.

Although the plan was to have a sky-watch programme along with an informal talk about the evening sky, due to Bad weather conditions we moved indoors. A small group of about 50 people from the institute gathered at their Auditorium. BAS members Amar Sharma and Vivek Yerkadithaya were coordinating the event.
