Day 6 of 30: Sidewalk Astronomy at Devaiah Park, Malleshwaram, Bangalore.

Graph say it all.. "The Passion, Handwork, Dedication and Results" of BAS Volunteers.
BAS breaks its last record of 5 successive sidewalk astronomy nights held during 100 hours of astronomy during early this year.
On the 6th day, the response had been tremendous, we choose Devaiah Park in Malleshwaram, for sidewalk and having an advantage of mass gathering in the nearby temple proved advantageous. Over 550 people witnessed Moon and Jupiter. Initially there was very bad response, but as the prayer time ended in the temple, the line started growing.
Landmark achievement today - cumulative 2090 people !

Day 4 of 30: Sidewalk Astronomy at Sankey tank lake, Sadashivnagar / Malleshwaram!

Like our volunteers supporting this record sidewalk astronomy event, Bangalore skies too join our passion and gave way to view Jupiter and Moon on the bank of Sankey tank Lake, Sadashivnagar.
Almost all age group visiting the lake for a evening walk peeped through the 3 inch telescope setup for sidewalk astronomy today. Approx 200 people enjoyed seeing Moon and Jupiter between 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm
As usual many were surprised why we are doing this sidewalk, while the volunteers explained about IYA 2009, everyone appreciated the efforts of BAS in getting the telescope out and organizing such an event.
We are getting calls from our BAS group email list on joining the session, its our pleasure to have you during the sidewalk, infact if you have your own telescope, we will help you conduct a sidewalk astronomy with your telescope too.

Day 3 of 30: Sidewalk Astronomy at Jayanagar, Malleshwaram and Hebbala!

We had the best skies so far in Bangalore today since 3 days, partial clouds but hardly any problem to see Jupiter and Moon. Today sidewalk was conducted at 3 different places in Bangalore.
Cumulative from 3 sidewalks today, about 500 people peeped through telescope to see Jupiter and moon, sidewalk astronomy were held at Jayanagar 4th Block, Malleshwaram and Hebbal Kempapura!
A lot of people gathered to look through the telescope and every one was eager to look at Jupiter and moon.
While telescope kept at Malleshwaram had some stability problem, we had to stop the sidewalk unfortunately. But Hebbal and Jayanagar performed very well.
Jayanagar ( 220 people, 6 inch dob, 6:30PM-9:30PM, Moon & Jupiter, Volunteers: Shyam and Gautham )
Malleshwaram ( 10 people, 2 inch, 7:00PM-7:20PM, Moon, Volunteer: Vivek )
Hebbal Kempapura ( 280 people, 6 inch, 7:00PM-8:40PM, Jupiter, Volunteer: Naveen Nanjundappa, Akash )
On its 3rd day, BAS hits an approximate 1000 headcount during its sidewalk night, with such weather conditions. which has given BAS volunteers a great motivation to go ahead in this sidewalk marathon.
Meet you all again at Malleshwaram @ 6PM on 5th Oct.
Report: Day 2 of 30 - Sidewalk Astronomy @ Forum and Indiranagar

Cloudy skies ! but no one can stop the passion of BAS volunteers to conduct a sidewalk astronomy night, we expected the weather to be far better than yesterday. Even though it was not good, it was far better than yesterday and more 60 people watched Jupiter and its moon, rest had to settle seeing Earth's Moon.
Response was excellent and we had lots of people willing to join BAS and get into regular astronomy, we had a few guest lecture requests for schools, a few people were interested to even know how we formed and what motivated to do all this stuff as NPO.
Many appreciated the effort of BAS and its volunteers too.
Over all BAS volunteer response to today's event, "it was worth all the effort we had put on today's sidewalk astronomy night."
Volunteers during today's sidewalk : Naveen Nanjundappa, Vivek Y, Achyut, Viswakeerthy, Alex, Ravi Babu and Shwetha Sharma.

Day 1 : Report:
Bangalore Astronomical Society started its 30 non-stop sidewalk astronomy Marathon today at Forum mall in koramangala, Bangalore.
Insipte of bad clouds, volunteers of BAS were ready with the telescopes. from 7 pm till 9:30 pm there was hardly any window to see moon or Jupiter, though we managed to show about 50 people moon. Bad skies spoiled the show. Disappointingly we were thinking of packing the telescopes.
When we were about to pack the telescopes, we noticed that the clouds started moving fast and moon was visible. Jupiter was out of sight :(
BAS's Astronomy Workshop at NIT Warangal.
Bangalore Astronomical Society in association with National Institute of Technology Warangal conducts Amateur Astronomy Workshop as part of Technozion-09 at NIT Warangal Campus.
A two day workshop had 83 participants from various engineering colleges. Topics such as Constellations, Solar system, Telescopes, Astrophotography, Stellar evolutions, Black holes and Meteorite hunting were discussed.
with bad sky conditions we managed to see Moon and Jupiter. Few participants interested in Astrophotography tried prime focus and fixed tripod methods.

Sessions were made interactive and most of the participants enjoyed, with some mistakes here and there, over event satisfied all the participants.
Astronomy quiz in between the sessions were interesting.
BAS volunteers - Pramod, Viswakeerthy, Alex, Achyut spent time showing the participants the objects in binoculars, telescopes and astrophotography.
We would like to thank NIT volunteers John, Manisha for being with us all day and their hospitality was outstanding. Thanks :)
